Pre-Honours: Japanese language (spoken and written); Japanese history, society and culture; survey courses on East Asian history, society and culture (total of six full-year courses over two years) Mixture of lectures, and language classes and tutorials in groups of approx. twelve Japanese for College Students (ICU); Basic Kanji Workbook Honours: 3rd Year: spent in Japan at one of our partner institutions 4th Year: split equally between language and Japanese Studies (options in history, history of ideas, modern Japanese society, film studies, pre-modern and modern literature, performing arts; students also write an independent dissertation of 10,000 words Continuous assessment (language drills, discursive essays); formal written exams account for approx 50% of the assessment
